At Kirrihill, we craft wines that are a true expression of South Australia’s renowned Clare Valley. From our estate vineyards, we produce aromatic Riesling, silky Shiraz, and elegant yet powerful Cabernet Sauvignon – each variety capturing the soul of the land and the spirit of our winemaking team.
Our Schobers Vineyard in Auburn, nestled within the Clare Valley, also yields bold Malbec and spicy, characterful Mataro – small-parcel wines that showcase the depth and diversity of our region.
To complement our Clare Valley classics, we also explore exciting varietals from McLaren Vale and the Mount Lofty Ranges. These small batch wines – including vibrant Nero d’Avola and textured Montepulciano – allow our winemakers to step beyond tradition and bring something fresh to the table.

Our Vineyards
Kirrihill’s highly prized Schobers Vineyard is one of the most distinguished red wine producing vineyards in Australia. Planted in the 1970’s, Schobers Vineyard is located in Auburn at the southern tip of the Clare Valley and sits atop the ‘Golden Mile’, a stretch of rare terra rossa soil. Schobers Vineyard produces Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Mataro wines of exceptional quality and complexity, which are rich in concentration with distinctive Clare Valley character, aroma and flavour. The micro-climates within the small valleys that make up the Clare Valley region provide the Kirrihill winemakers with a diversity of Riesling fruit to produce elegant and aromatic Rieslings. Slate Creek vineyard in Watervale, also planted in the 1970’s, produces grapes of sublime character and finesse and is the only vineyard in Watervale that grows Riesling, and only Riesling, concentrating that which is done best in Watervale.

Our focus is growing the best quality grapes, respecting the individual blocks and estates and managing our vineyards sustainably. From these grapes, Kirrihill make the finest wines possible. With a commitment to crafting wines of exceptional quality, our state-of-the-art facilities enable us to produce wines with consistency, reliability and minimal intervention allowing the terroir of our Clare Valley estate to shine through. As our Kirrihill red wines are not fined, they are also vegan friendly. Our Kirrihill winery was sustainably certified in 2022 by Sustainable Winegrowing Australia, which is endorsed by the Australian Wine Research Institute.
Who We Are
Kirrihill started in 1998 by long term mates and locals, Sean Edwards and Rob Stanway, Kirrihill grew in partnership when Matt Lawson joined the company in 2011 as CEO and in 2017 becoming Commercial & Export Director, also an owner. We are a small, dedicated and passionate team, our Winery Operations are based in Clare and our Sales & Marketing based in Adelaide. Our Winery Manager, Jon Young, leads the team in Clare and has been with the company for five years. Our Winemaker, Alexandra Alavoine, has also been with Kirrihill for five years and is now happily at the helm of winemaking. Our management team is supported by an enthusiastic winery crew who highly regard attention to detail and meticulous wine creation. On the sales front, Kirrihill has a number of Sales Agents in South Australia and on the eastern seaboard in Victoria and New South Wales with Jenny Ren heading up our Asian Sales.
